Gary Switzer, the head of the Erie St. Clair Local Health Integration Network, announced on Thursday that nearly forty per cent of seniors who are currently in Windsor hospitals could be at home.
There are currently more than 110 seniors in the region who are in hospital and waiting for long-term care beds. Switzer argued in favour of more home care for seniors, as an alternative to the existing hospital bottleneck.
“That’s where we need to build our capacity,” Switzer said. “That’s where they need to be to make the decision about where they want to stay next. The goal is to allow the seniors to stay at home longer and build capacity in the system.”
